This season is all about plush velvet, rich textures, and ultra-cozy fabrics. If you hate the cold as much as I do, then you’ll love bundling up in something warm, soft, and stylish. And what better way to stay cozy than with a luxurious DIY velvet infinity scarf?
Today, I’ll show you how to sew your own loop scarf in under 20 minutes—yes, really! It’s an easy, beginner-friendly project that not only makes a chic addition to your wardrobe but also a thoughtful handmade gift.
What You’ll Need
✔️ 1/2 Yard Velvet Fabric (choose your favorite color!)
✔️ Dressmaker Shears (sharp fabric scissors make all the difference!)
✔️ Sewing Pins (to hold everything in place)
✔️ Basic Sewing Machine (or a serger if you have one!)
✔️ Hand-Sewing Needle & Thread (for the final touch!)
How to Sew a Velvet Infinity Scarf
Step 1: Prepare Your Fabric
-
Take your 1/2 yard of velvet fabric and fold it lengthwise (hot dog style) with the plush sides facing each other.
-
Pin along the long edge to keep everything secure.
Step 2: Sew the Tube
-
Sew along the pinned edge to create a long velvet tube.
-
If using a standard sewing machine, a zig-zag stitch works well. If you have a serger, it gives a clean, professional finish.
-
Step 3: Turn It Right Side Out
-
Flip the fabric inside out so that the soft, pretty side is now facing outward.
-
Fold the scarf in half again, bringing the two open ends together.
-
Step 4: Join the Ends
-
Pin the two ends together, making sure the right sides are facing each other.
-
Sew around the edges, leaving a small opening (about 1-2 inches).
Step 5: Finish by Hand
-
Use a needle and thread to neatly close the small hole with an invisible stitch.
-
And just like that—your velvet infinity scarf is complete! 🎉
How to Style Your DIY Infinity Scarf
💙 Loop it once for a long, elegant drape.
💜 Loop it twice for a cozy, warm fit.
💚 Experiment with different colors—burgundy, emerald green, deep navy, or even bold hot pink!
Since this scarf is made of velvet, I recommend hand-washing it to keep it looking luxurious.
